DAY 329: The Four Pillars of Health

The first and foremost pillar is food. […] I experienced a connection and oneness with my body with this single most important change in a way that shifted and evolved my life in many positive ways. I understood the meaning of the Hindi saying from our shastras –“Like food, like mind” or the more famous English phrase, “You are what you eat.”

Second Pillar

As you would easily guess, the second pillar of health is about activity and movement, also called exercise. I prefer to use the first two words as “exercise ” often has negative and effortful connotations for man y. Before I began my own journey of self-healing, I was extremely sedentary and the excruciating pain of rheumatoid arthritis made me even more lethargic.

Third Pillar

Positive, wholesome thoughts are the third pillar. Ultimately, the control center to change our life style is in the head. Unless we change our thinking, we can’t really hope to change much in our lives.

Fourth Pillar

The final pillar is one of habits: childhood, family and social conditioning that we get set into without questioning. These habits stem from the beliefs we carry around all our lives. We may have inherited these from our family and friends or picked them from our doctor or read them in books and papers or simply followed the societal norms. Sometimes, we just call it our personality and refuse to budge or change anything saying, “I am like this only.” This is all inner resistance to change, our invisible dragons that we are meant to slay in our journey to evolution and self-awareness.”

Why do we gain weight? Why do we fall sick? […]

If one could control one’s craving towards chocolate cake (or any other craving for that matter)…

If one could remain enthusiastic towards exercise on a daily basis…

If one could follow a healthy diet without any cheating…

Would one need to shop around for finding an external agency to help us win the battle of weight loss?

It is here that the role of NLP comes in.

What is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. ‘Neuro’ refers to the way we experience the world through our senses; ‘linguistic’ refers to the way we use language to make sense of the world, capture and conceptualize our experience and then communicate that experience to others; and ‘programming’ addresses the way we code (mentally represent) our experience and adopt various behavioral patterns of response. DAY 327: Beyond Self-Sabotage

shutterstock_243915115“Most people can bring drastic changes in their quality of life by identifying the top five or ten of their limiting beliefs and changing them. Each belief has the power to create unhappiness or joy in your life.

And as every belief has sub-beliefs within it, if you have the belief that you are not worthy this will create more sub-beliefs on various aspects of self-loath.

On the contrary, a good, positive belief spawns many sub-beliefs to support the positive belief.

On a subconscious level, every belief has a secondary benefit. A secondary benefit means that while something causes pain or discomfort on one level, it may provide pleasure on another level. This is the reason why we protect our beliefs, even after becoming aware that they are not helping us. We create justifications for our beliefs.

For example, a client was unhappy with her job and yet she was fearful of changing her job. Her secondary belief was that even if she changed her job, the new job would be like the current one. This secondary belief provided her the ‘comfort’ to stay in her current job.

When patterns are broken, a new world emerges.”

DAY 326: Serenity Surrender

shutterstock_108848738“Serenity Surrender is a channel by which it becomes possible for each person to see their life, situations, relationships and concerns from a higher perspective. When we look at our lives from the limited understanding of our physical reality, we tend to blame, get angry or feel victimized. This is because in that moment, what we can see, hear and feel from the physical life situation and people, takes prominence.

We fail to see how we have attracted the respective relationship or situation. Over our journey right from the creation of the soul, we have judged ourselves, punished ourselves and believed in experiencing evolution through struggle and misery.

All of this happened because from the moment of our creation as souls, we have perceived ourselves as other than the creator. We developed an identity other than what we implicitly were.

This need for identity gave us the need to attract various experiences, by the way of which we sought who we are. Having chased who we are, many times we identified ourselves as different people in different roles and each role we played at each stage only brought us closer to believing that we are bigger than that role.

Whenever we got stuck in the role rather than looking at ourselves as the one who’s playing it, we got trapped in it until we realized our power over that role, the power of having chosen it.”
