It is exciting to start the 365 Days of Gratitude project and share it with you. I spent the last couple of hours thinking about what my first post should be about. Many events, moments and acts of kindness that I am grateful for started to pour into my awareness. Many people who have assisted me, challenged me, loved me and taught me to be myself found their way to the surface in my memory banks. I am sure I will write about them all during the 365 day journey into my exploration of the power of gratitude.
But today I want to write about a defining moment that shaped me at a profound level and refined my beliefs and actions since I was 14 years old. I loved reading science fiction and I loved Sir Isaac Asimov’s books. In the book entitled “Foundation’s Edge” I read for the first time about the concept of Gaia: the integrated, interconnected and united world of Gaia. The human beings on Gaia evolved their ability to form an ongoing group consciousness, and then extended this consciousness to the fauna and flora, even including inanimate matter of the planet itself. As a result the entire planet became a super-organism.The people of Gaia knew that the actions of one influenced the world of many and they worked together, created together and respected every living and non-living thing on their planet.
I remember feeling a deep sorrow at the thought that I had been born on Earth, where nobody seemed to know about Gaia and how wonderful life can be at that level of interconnection and awareness. The sorrow stayed with me for many years until I realized that Earth IS Gaia. Everything inside us and around us is part of the same energetic mix. Our individual words, thoughts and actions influence everything around us, regardless of us being aware of this fact or not. Through our day to day actions we can create resonance with Earth and our life on it or we can create dissonance. I chose to create resonance, decided that I wanted to teach others about it too and have been doing that in my personal and professional life, day after day after day.
In order to create resonance in our world, we must first learn about our own internal coherence. “Coherence is the state when the heart, mind and emotions are in energetic alignment and cooperation,” Institute of HeartMath Research Director Dr. Rollin McCraty says. “It is a state that builds resiliency – personal energy is accumulated, not wasted – leaving more energy to manifest intentions and harmonious outcomes.”
So today my heart is full of gratitude for the possibility of Gaia. I am grateful for Sir Isaac Asimov’s wonderful books that expanded my awareness and shaped my inner life.
